CHAPTER ELEVEN
Zoey had been missing in action ever since the night she left. She blocked Ty’s number and cleared out her things while Ty was at work… or wherever she was.
Ty popped up at her sister’s house, looking for her, but Zoey had already gone north. She had gotten herself a suite at the Ritz near the airport, cleared out their bank account, and continued to piece together her next move.
"Yo! We have to make that move. TONIGHT!" Ty exclaimed. "Zoey met up with the girls and told them everything. And I mean EVERYTHING. The bitch even cleared out my fucking bank account! All the money! GONE!"
"I told you the day would come when she got tired of your shit. And if you think you gon’ be playing ME, like you did them, you had me fucked up from the introduction."
"Fuck all that, Charlene! She took every dime out the bank, cleared out the crib, and left a note threatening to come for my school. I could kill this bitch!"
Ty was so mad her eyes were red. She had no idea where Zoey was, and since her sister had never liked Ty, she wouldn’t tell her anything. She was actually proud that Zoey had finally grown the balls to take everything and leave.
"Well, where is she now?"
"I don't know!” Ty almost cried. “I been calling her phone; it’s going straight to voicemail."
"Okay, okay. I'll get everything in motion, and you let me know what’s going on. But don’t fuck this up like you did everything else, Ty. I ain’t tryna go to jail for your ass.”
Gigi’s radiation days were always the hardest for Nina because it reminded her so much of her mother. And the fact that Gi was still a baby didn't help either.
She did her first rounds early on radiation days so she could be right by Gi’s side throughout the whole process. But that day, she just wasn't herself. She was running behind because she couldn’t get her mind off the meeting with Zoey the night before, or the fact that Ty was Gigi’s mother.
"Rose, I know I'm probably the last bitch on earth you wanna see right now, but I need a favor."
She stopped Rose in the hallway with pleading eyes.
"Mhm. What's up?"
Rose was still mad about Deon, but she could tell Nina was having a rough day.
"Can you take Mr. Fontain today? It's time for Gigi to get situated, and I need to be there."
Nina knew Rose didn't want to do a damn thing to help her after finding out she was kicking it with her baby daddy, but she put her pride aside and asked anyway.
"Pretty please? I’ll owe you one.”
As badly as she wanted to tell Nina to fuck off, she knew how much Gigi meant to her, so there was no way she could say no.
"Fine. But as soon as you're done, he's yours. You know I can’t stand that man."
"Thank you so much!” Nina almost hugged her. “I’ll get him as soon as I’m done. Thank you!”
She thought it was funny how asking Rose for help made her want to talk to Deon. On her way to radiation, she shot him a text to see how his day was going and to see if he wanted to meet up when she got off.
He didn’t respond right away because he was having a rough morning himself. He had to stop at the center to take Jr. a change of clothes, which made him late for a meeting with a new client. On top of that, Jr. was having a bad day too.
"I don’t feel so good. I wanna go with you.”
"I have to work, son. What's wrong?"
" I just don't feel good today. Like something’s wrong.”
Deon knelt down to be face to face with his son. He felt his head for a fever, but he wasn’t warm. He looked ok, but Deon could tell there was something bothering him.
"I'll be to get you as soon as school is out, ok? I’ll call Mom and have her check on you. If you still feel bad, I’ll come and get you early. Alright?"
"Ok, Dad. Pick me up early."
On his ride to the meeting, Deon felt anxious. He didn't understand why his son had acted the way he did, and he didn't like having to leave him afterwards either. He pressed the call button on his steering wheel and commanded the car to call Rose over the loudspeaker. She hadn't gone on her break yet, so he left a message about what happened and told her to call him back ASAP.
That was the first time Jr. had ever wanted to leave school, and Deon felt like it was because of Ty.
Nina put her phone in her pocket and headed towards Gigi’s room. On the way there, she bumped into Lyrica, who had been acting funny ever since the night before. Her attitude didn't bother Nina any. As long as she wasn't interfering with her money, Nina didn’t give a damn.
"Hey, girl."
"Hey. What's up?" Lyrica replied dryly.
Nina smiled, shook her head, and continued walking.
As she neared the nurses' station, the charge nurse called her over before she got to Gigi’s room. Nina sensed something was wrong the minute she approached. What it was, though, she had no idea.
"Where you headed?"
"You know, on Tuesdays I sit with Gigi while she's doing radiation. What's up?" Nina asked, fearing the worst.
The nurse came from behind the desk and took both of Nina’s hands in her own. She knew how much Gigi meant to her, and she knew there was never a day that Nina didn’t go and sit at her bedside. She didn’t want to be the one to break the
