CHAPTER FOURTEEN

Ty called her men and told them where they were after she and Charlene deliberated on what they were going to do.

Things had completely taken a turn for the worse, leaving them with little to no time to think quick on their feet.

If they were going to walk away from the heist alive, without going to jail, and with the money they were after, they had to play smart.

They figured they would find Deon’s room before anybody got suspicious, have the henchmen take care of him and whoever else was hiding inside, get the kid, and have Nina pay up. It sounded easy enough when Ty talked them through it.

They just had to make sure that their hands stayed clean and no one could identify them.

"Ay, I need you to meet me somewhere."

"Okay. Where? Are you ok?"

"Yeah. I just… I'm at the Ritz near the airport. Room 702. Come now."

After calling Nina, Deon peeped out the window to check for his men. As Spaz pointed them out in the four corners of the parking lot, he spotted two of the SUVs from earlier.

"Look. There and there,” Deon said. “Those the same trucks from the school."

"You think they followed baby mom’s?"

"Had to,” Deon said. “I made sure we left ’em before we flushed 75."

Spaz got on the phone and let the men know they had company in the parking lot, but told them not to make a move until he said so.

Deon grabbed the two duffle bags they came in with, and started unloading them on the bed.

Rose picked Jr. up out of the way and gave Deon a look of concern so deep it made his heart sink in his chest.

"Don’t look at me like that,” he said. “This ain’t my fault.”

The look he gave her let her know that he was going to do any and everything necessary to make sure they were ok. No matter what.

She took their son and sat on the couch in the back of the room. Seeing her fearfully cling to their child like it was the last time she ever would made Deon so full of rage; he wanted to walk into that parking lot and shoot up the whole block.

"Spaz. We gotta come up outta this, dawg. My son…”

"Nope.” Spaz cut him off. “We ain’t talking like that. God said this shit already handled. Now, get your shit and be ready.”

Spaz was in his zone. He didn't wanna hear any I love yous or goodbye’s. The only thing he wanted to hear from Deon before the shit was over was him busting his gun.

"These niggas ‘bout to get what they looking for,” Spaz said, sounding excited. “It’s been a while since I played Call of Duty, but a nigga still sharp as a knife.”

Deon knew Spaz lived for a good shootout. At times, he felt sorry for his boy because the street life was all he knew. But at the same time, he was grateful that his boy was so loyal, and that's why he took care of his every need, with no questions asked.

"Soon as them niggas make a move, the boys on it. Don't even worry ‘bout it, D. I’ma make sure your family straight."

Ty and Charlene were just about to exit their car when they saw Nina pull in and park. They weren’t expecting her to be at the Ritz after she was kicked out of Gigi’s room earlier. Ty thought for sure she would be too heartbroken to do anything but stay home and cry.

"What the fuck is she doing here?”

"Shit, I don’t know,” Charlene shrugged. “She said she was going home after she left work.”

"Well, what the fuck is she doing here!?”

"I don't know, Ty! I'm not in her fucking back pocket."

"Shit!”

Ty banged her hands against the dashboard in frustration. The last thing she needed was for Nina to get caught in the crossfire before she got what she wanted.

"Calm the fuck down!” Charlene snapped. “The plan still the same. So don’t go losing your head and fuck everything up.”

Nina knocked softly at the door, not knowing what to expect. The whole room grew silent as everyone looked at Deon. He slowly walked to the door, looked out the peephole to make sure it was her. Then opened it.

"Hey,” she spoke somberly. “What's going on?"

Nina froze dead in her tracks the minute she stepped inside the room.

She couldn’t believe her eyes.

"Is this some sort of sick fucking joke? What the FUCK! Is going on, Deon!? Rose!? Mom!?"

She turned to run from the room, but Deon grabbed her, pulled her inside, and quickly shut the door. Nina tried her hardest to break free of his grip. She slapped, scratched, and bit at his face and hands, but he didn’t loosen up one bit.

"Nina, stop! Calm down!" he whispered sharply. “Relax!”

When her mother tried to intervene, she fought even harder. She was scared, confused, angry, and neither of them could blame her. When she was finally calm enough to listen to their explanation, he let her go, hoping she didn’t try to escape again.

She was crying uncontrollably and demanding they tell her what was going on.

Deon left that part to her mother.

"Baby, listen."

Her mother reached out to touch her hands, but Nina pulled away.

"Don't touch me!" she said, fearfully.

"Nina, I'm so sorry!” her mother sobbed. “When your father left us for that whore Ty calls a mother, he took every dime we had. The only way I was able to keep us afloat was to go after the insurance policy he had taken out on me before he did. As soon as I was diagnosed, he went and took out a two-million-dollar policy, and they were gonna kill me for it. I found out, and over my dead body! Would I let him and that whore! live happily ever after off my name."

"No," Nina cried. “I don’t believe you.”

"Yes, Sweety. Your father is a snake. I caught him cheating and threatened to leave him. That’s why he emptied the bank accounts and took off—left us with nothing."

"And all of you knew about this?"

Nina looked around the room with tearful eyes, pleading for more answers, but everyone remained silent.

"No. No, they didn't,” her mother said. “When Ty married Zoey, I reached out to her. Nina, Ty has had it out for you ever since she found out your father was the reason her mother abandoned her. She was never your friend. She never loved you the way you loved her. It was all an act."

"She tried to kidnap my son today,” Deon chimed in. “I'm guessing to barter you out of your money.”

"She did what!?" Nina’s eyes widened.

"You heard me right."

Nina was so mind-blown that she had to take a seat before she fainted. Not only was she reeling over the fact that her mother wasn’t really dead, but she couldn’t fathom why Ty had gone so far over the edge. Nothing made sense to her—kidnapping, her dad planning to kill her mom, Ty hating her guts deep down inside. It was all too much for her to grasp.

"Nina, Ty is no good for anyone,” Zoey said. "All she wants is money. Your friend Charlene is in on it as well."

"WHAT!"

Nina and Rose burst out at the same time.

"Yes. I found out that she and Ty have been together the whole time we've been married."

"This is some sick shit!" Rose said. “What the fuck! Are we being punked right now? Ashton, where yo’ ass at, nigga?”

She peered around the room like she expected him and his camera crew to jump out of their hiding spots at any given moment. But when nothing happened, she knew it was for real.

"They on the move," Spaz interrupted. “Y’all gon’ have to do this family reunion shit another time.”

Deon quickly moved the women and his son to the back room of the suite.

Spaz told their men what room they were in, and everybody sprang into action.

The henchmen scared information out of one of the housekeepers on the floor, and passed it on to Ty.

Charlene took the stairs to the 8th floor, while Ty and three of her men rode the elevator to the 7th. The jack boyz entered the building two at a time in 60-second intervals. Two men to each floor, two men at the bar, and four men outside. One in the front, one in the back, and one to each side of the building.

Zoey made her way to the 9th floor when she got the drop on Charlene. Nina, her mom, Rose, and Jr. were locked in the room with Deon guarding the door. Spaz had manned down the entire open area with his favorite Ak47. So anybody coming in uninvited was in for a rude awakening.

"Housekeeping."

The knocks came at the perfect time.

Spaz looked back at Deon and smiled because he knew housekeeping was nowhere in sight. And if she was… well…

He posted up behind the bar with his gun aimed directly at the door. He closed his eyes for a second and took a deep breath, and the second the door flew open and bullets started flying, Spaz let his gun rip.

“Let’s go, fuck niggas!” he laughed over the gunfire.

Deon dove behind the couch as one of the henchmen ran in, shooting in his direction. He maneuvered towards the bar in a crouched position, and in a single shot, hit the man right between the eyes.

Spaz made his way to the kitchen, switched his clip, and aired everything he saw moving; he didn't give a fuck who it was.

The jack boyz and henchmen were having it out in the hallway, while Deon and Spaz held down the fort. In the midst of all the havoc, Ty had managed to sneak in past them all and make her way to the bedroom.

She popped the lock off the door and went inside with her gun drawn.

She was startled at the fact that Nina's mother was amongst the company, but quickly regained her composure and commanded everyone to the floor.

"Where's the kid!"

No one spoke.

"Huh!?” she asked again. “Where is he!? Fuck it. Nina, get up!"

It wasn't until Deon heard a gunshot that he realized the room was open. He rushed to the door, gun aimed, ready to split whoever was in there. Ty had her back to the door, so she didn't even hear him creep up on her until he pressed the barrel of his gun to the back of her head.

Click. Click. Click.

His gun was empty.

Ty smiled, and quickly turned and pressed her gun to his forehead. Just as she was about to pull the trigger, Jr. jumped from the closet and let a single shot ring out.

Pow!

The bullet hit Ty clean in the middle of her back, and she dropped to the floor like a sack of potatoes.

Rose scrambled over to her son and took the gun from his hands. Riddled with fear, she couldn’t believe what he’d done.

"Dad taught me how to shoot."

“Shh,” she whispered. “Don’t ever say that again. You hear me?”

Charlene bitched up when she heard all the gun chatter. Zoey had spotted her hiding out in the housekeeper's break room and crept up on her from the back exit. She had always hated Charlene with a passion, so she was excited to get it on with the bitch before it was all over.

"When the shit hits the fan, these bitches always freeze up.” She entered the breakroom like a smooth criminal. “That’s the difference between a wife and a bitch who just wants to get fucked.”

Noticing that Charlene was unarmed, Zoey dropped her gun and tied up her hair. Everybody thought she was too pretty to get her hands dirty, but truth be told, Zoey was even grittier than Ty.

"Let's see if Ty taught you how to dance like she taught you how to fuck."

“Very well,” Charlene smirked.

She charged Zoey, knocking her into the vending machine. Zoey planted her feet on the floor so she didn’t fall, then grabbed Charlene by the hair and landed a jab straight to her nose.

Charlene gave her a run for her money, but in the end, Zoey took the cake. She flipped, tossed, and dragged Charlene’s ass all over that break room. And when she was finished with her, she stood over the body like a stone-cold killer.

If it weren't for the police dragging her off, Zoey would've been beating her head in until she couldn't move a muscle.

Cameras caught the whole show.

Nina's mother had also captured the entire event on the wire she was wearing. She had a friend who was a detective, who had her back throughout the whole thing. She was a very smart woman, and when it came to her daughter, nothing was impossible.

"I'm sorry you had to find out like this."

She and Nina stood in the parking lot away from the commotion. Nina was still in shock that she was actually alive, but she was no longer upset.

"You could've told me, Mom. I would've understood."

"May I?" her mother asked, holding her arms up for a hug. "I'm so sorry. I never wanted you to worry about me or to live your life in fear. I did what I had to do to keep you safe, and I’d do it again if I had to.”

Nina went into work the next afternoon as usual. She didn't want to be home with her mind all over the place about what happened, so she decided work would keep her occupied. Gigi had been moved to the outpatient wing by then. She wasn't sure if there was still a no-contact order in place, but she snuck in to see her as soon as she clocked in and promised to see her before she clocked out.

Nearing the end of her shift, she had been called into the office. When she came in, she saw Zoey, her supervisor, and what looked like a social worker. Nina thought maybe someone had seen her sneak in to see Gigi and she was going to be in trouble, but she was completely taken by surprise at the real reason she was there.

"Are you serious!?" she exclaimed. “No, this has to be a joke, right?” She looked at Zoey with tearful eyes. “Stop playing with me.”

“No games, Nina,” Zoey said softly. “This is all for real.”

Zoey had chosen to sign her rights over to Nina. It wasn't that she didn't love Gigi; she just knew Nina could give her more love than she ever could.

Nina was so ecstatic that she rushed from the office and headed straight to Gigi’s room to tell her the good news. When she got downstairs to cut through the lobby, she saw Deon coming through the doors. He was smiling, holding a bouquet of roses just for her.

“What are you doing here?” she asked, smiling.

He didn’t say a word. He handed her the roses, wrapped her in his arms, and planted a long, wet kiss on her lips.
