SHAMAR PHILLIPS
Chapter THREE

3 AM is said to be the devil's hour. And that’s exactly what it sounded like outside.

Lightning strikes cracked through the air like a whip; thunder sounded like boulders tumbling down the mountain. The wind howled through the unseen cracks in the cottage's wood, whistling like a creepy hiker in the trees beyond us.

I was scared out of my mind, while Shamar was in his room with the lights off, not making a peep.

I tried calling Trinity for comfort, but since the service on the island was terrible because of the storm, I couldn’t get a connection. The power was in and out, and so was the WIFI. When I got scared enough, I mustered the courage to step into the hallway and sit near Shamar’s door. Knocking was absolutely out of the question. I didn’t want him thinking I was there for a nightcap. Nor did I want to bother him.

He must’ve heard my footsteps creak up the hallway or felt my presence somehow, because I didn’t have to sit there long before he opened his door just a crack. His body was hidden behind the wooden slab and darkness, and given our first encounter, I rightfully assumed it was because he was naked.

“What’s wrong?” he asked.

I felt foolish sitting there like a little girl who was afraid of the dark. It took me a minute to even say what the matter was, even though I think he already knew.

“I can’t sleep,” I said. “The power keeps cutting out, and there’s no service.”

He looked into the room behind him, like someone was there. I instantly regretted sitting near his door and jumped to my feet to apologize for interrupting. But then he asked if I wanted to come inside.

At first, I was confused; nervous to answer. Then another slash of lightning whipped through the clouds, prompting me to nod my head faster than its whip.

“Alright… hold up, a second. I gotta put some clothes on.”

I got a closer glimpse of his nakedness as he walked away. The darkness somehow illuminated his silhouette, making him appear larger than life. My heart fluttered in my chest, and a tiny smile forced its way onto my cheeks. I had no idea what I was doing or why I felt so comfortable going to his room, but I had to remind myself why I was there.

“Come in,” he called out from the bathroom. “I’ll be out in a minute.”

He was on the other side of the room with the bathroom door shut when I entered. His space was cozy and neat, but freezing. There was a large, almost industrial-sized fan blowing near the bed, seemingly competing with the cold air outside.

I didn’t wait for him to come out before I climbed into his bed and snuggled into the heavy blanket sprawled across it. It was so warm and comfortable, and it smelled like his cologne. I could’ve fallen asleep as soon as I laid down, but a noise I couldn’t ignore caught my attention.

Moaning and groaning; screams of pleasure came from underneath the blanket. I lifted it and saw his phone lying there, still playing the Pornhub video he was watching before he let me in. In any other instance, I would’ve been appalled by what I saw. But since it was him… my attraction-induced delusion let it slide.

“You could’ve said you were busy, you know.”

He looked confused as he came toward the bed. He was fully clothed and looked a little irritated, I thought. I didn’t take offense to it because I would’ve been irritated too if someone had interrupted my masturbating. It wasn’t something I did often, but when I did, I liked to be left alone.

“What you mean?” he asked as he climbed into bed beside me.

I handed him his phone with the video still playing, moans and groans louder than they were before I found it. I felt slyness on my cheeks and flirtation in my eyes, but I didn’t mean for it to be there. My hormones had a mind of their own that night.

“Oh. Shit.” He looked embarrassed. “My bad. I saw a shadow at my door and forgot all about the video.”

“Mhm,” I teased. “I could have waited for you to finish doing whatever you were doing.”

“How you know I didn’t?”

His reply caught me by surprise. It was slick and full of banter against my assumption. I didn’t know if he had finished or not, but the way he answered made me wonder.

“Did you?”

I must have taken him by surprise too, because he didn’t reply. He chuckled and made himself comfortable in bed, leaving enough space between us to fit another person. I wanted him closer since it's how I always slept with Trinity during a storm. But since I didn’t believe he finished his midnight meat stroking, I accepted just being allowed in his bed.

“It’s raining cats and dogs out there, huh?” he asked. “I didn’t even hear it before you came in.”

“That’s because you have this gigantic fan blowing in your face and women moaning in your ear,” I said.

“Don’t kink shame. I know you be watching it too.”

I had to laugh because he was right. But I wouldn’t admit it. I was way too shy to tell anyone about my guilty pleasures.

“How do you know what I watch?” I asked, shame creeping its way into my tone.

“I don’t know. You just seem like the type to watch it late at night. The good girl always ends up being the quiet freak.”

“You and I should know better than anyone not to judge a book by its cover.”

“Ok, ok,” he chuckled. “You right.”

As he lay next to me, scrolling through his phone, I couldn’t help but wonder what he was looking at or who he was talking to. I wanted him to talk to me all night. Surprisingly, I felt like I was in bed with my best friend, or even Trinity. Not a man I had only come across because of work.

He was cool and respectful, even though I was the one crowding his space. I was actually a little offended by the way he carried on as if I wasn’t there. I was used to men whistling and honking their horns at me just walking down the street. And there I was, lying in bed with a fine man on what most would consider the perfect night for sex, and he didn’t try to make a single move.

“How would your girlfriend feel about you being in bed with another woman?” I asked, trying to steal his attention away from his phone.

“Probably the same way your boyfriend would feel about you being in bed with another man.”

I don’t know what got into me that night, but I wanted to snatch his phone out of his hand and force him to give me his attention. I knew he wasn’t doing anything important, so I didn’t understand why he wouldn’t engage with me the way I wanted him to.

“Are you mad that I interrupted you?” I asked, a hint of sass sprinkled throughout my question.

That finally got a rise out of him. He lowered his phone and stared into space for a moment before replying, “Why would I be mad?”

“I don’t know," I shrugged. “You’re acting like I’m not even here. I came in here because I was scared of the storm, remember?”

He looked at me with a confused smirk on his mug, like he had finally caught onto something that I wasn’t saying. Again, I don’t know what had gotten into me or why I was being so feisty with him, but I couldn’t help myself.

“I thought you were gonna go to sleep. I didn’t know you wanted to be entertained,” he said.

“Hm. I guess I should go to sleep then, huh?”

I rolled over, putting my back to him and closed my eyes. Although it was cold in the room, I was pretty warm from the blanket and the tension I felt rising between us. I heard his phone connect with the nightstand beside him and then felt him moving around on his side of the bed. I grew nervous, thinking he was getting naked again and finally making a pass at me, but all he did was spoon me and tell me I was being a baby.

“You could’ve just asked to be held, you know? You don’t have to be a baby about it.”

I immediately got goosebumps when he pulled me close. My heart fluttered so hard I had to take a deep breath to keep from passing out. The feeling was so involuntary that I almost felt violated in the best way possible.

“I’m not being a baby, Shamar,” I whined. “I’m really scared. For real.”

“I know, I’m just fucking around,“ he spoke softly into my ear. “This storm is kinda’ bad, though.”

He hugged me tighter like he'd known me for a long time, making me forget about the storm beating down the block outside. My mind drifted to something else being beaten down. And not by the storm.

The position we were in made my thoughts inevitable. His manhood was pressed against me, pulsating like my favorite bassline, and I wanted to dance against it all night until I felt the heartbeat in my most intimate place explode with excitement.

“What kind of story you writing?” he asked, sleep suddenly making his voice sexier.

“A love story,” I replied. “Trying to, anyway.”

“How long you been writing it?”

“Years,” I sighed. “Every time I think I have something as good as my last, I lose the motivation.”

His head rested against my back, and my entire insides ignited with the most beautiful flame. I felt like I had gone to Mars, but there was no fire or dryness in sight. Instead, it was a universe of colors and orgasmic euphoria.

My skin tingled the longer he rested there. The coolness of his breath on my back lit my fire even more. And when his hand glided from my belly to the lowest point on my hip, the sensation of his fingers near my pelvis made me gasp.

“What the fuck?” I shivered like I had just orgasmed.

“What?” he groaned softly.

“What was that? What did you just do to me?”

He slowly released me from his grip, rolled onto his back, and closed his eyes, leaving me and my question to answer ourselves. I was frantic with hormones, but I couldn’t move for a moment. My mind, body, and soul were in a daze after the emotional climax that had just happened to me.

After gathering myself, I rolled over to face him. I could barely see him because the only light in the room was the lightning strikes that scattered the sky, but it was perfect. He looked cool and content with whatever he’d done to me, while I was confused and wanting more. I knew what it felt like to be so aroused by someone that I could hardly sit still, but this was different. I was in heat, and I needed him to cool me off.

“I’m speaking to you,” I said, resting on my elbow so he’d know how serious I was.

“What’d you say?”

Even his voice made my body quiver. I could barely get my question out again because I was so tingly all over. I had never experienced anything like I did when he touched me, and even though I liked it, I was afraid of it.

“You heard me,” I squinted. “Are you some kind of witch or warlock or something? Nobody’s ever made me feel that way just by touching me.”

“Not even your boyfriend?”

“I don’t have a boyfriend,” I sassed. “And you shouldn’t be touching people like that while you have a girlfriend. I consider it cheating.”

"I don’t have a girlfriend," he mocked. "I was being sarcastic earlier."

That was hard for me to believe. A handsome, successful man who was good with his words and his hands being single was an anomaly. All of them had girlfriends, baby mamas, and side chicks that you had to fight til' the death just to have a conversation with him.

“I don’t know if I believe that,” I said. “So I’m gonna go to bed. Before you do something else you shouldn’t do.”

Another lightning strike showed me the smile on his face before I rolled over. As badly as I wanted to roll over on top of him, I kept my cat in the bag and prayed I would have a wet dream that was just as satisfying as his magic.
