CHAPTER TWO

Being an only child, Nina grew up spoiled rotten. She was always well-mannered and very smart, but spoiled nonetheless. When her mother passed, she left Nina a gorgeous house near Siesta Key, a hefty trust fund, and a small clothing store in the circle to look after. Her mother always told her to keep her eyes open for games and bullshit, but she didn’t exactly warn her about how blind love could make you.

“The early bird gets the worm, baby girl. But the second mouse gets the cheese.”

That saying had stuck with Nina ever since her mother said it. After finding out that Ty was keeping secrets from her, she decided it was time she put it into action.

Of course, when she woke up the next afternoon, she had hella missed calls and text messages from Ty, trying to explain herself. But no matter how much Nina loved her, she refused to fall victim to her games. Hell, Anyone's games.

She skimmed over Ty’s messages while she stood in front of her His and Hers bathroom sinks, brushing her teeth. Just like any other game-playing nigga, Ty was trying to make it seem like what she saw was nothing. She blamed her absence and lack of communication on being busy with work, but she clearly had enough free time to take a bitch on a date.

“What do you want, Ty?” she finally answered her call.

“How come you ain’t called or texted me back? You really mad about that shit? I told you it was nothing.”

“Oh, because you've returned any of my calls or texts up until you get caught in your shit?” Nina scoffed.

“Ni, I told you it was nothing. Lyrica got some good ideas on some events we could use to bring more money into the center. That’s all it was.”

“Ok, and that was so hard to let me know because?”

“It wasn’t. I just got really busy. We went to get some dinner and discuss the plans. That's it. I swear”

“Yeah, I hear you, Ty,” Nina sighed. “I have to get dressed. I have a meeting at the shop in a few, so I'll probably hit you back a lil later. Maybe.”

Without even waiting for a reply, Nina ended their call. Just hearing the lies in Ty's voice made her soul cringe. She couldn't believe where the rendezvous with the only person she trusted, besides her mother, had taken her.

She wasn’t the type of chick who stayed down for too long, though. She made it a goal to show Ty exactly who she was fucking with. She damn sure didn't need her for anything, and she knew she was fine enough to pull almost anyone she wanted. So, with karma whispering in her ear, she put on a pair of Jay's, coochie cutters and a tank top, and headed to the studs basketball game after she collected the weekly funds from her shop.

She knew Ty would be there playing, looking fine as shit, running up and down the court sweating. She also knew that she was going to be sitting right in the bleachers, being watched by every bitch in the gym. It wasn't like she'd never been to a game before; she was there every Saturday, supporting her best friend even before they started messing around.

After getting dressed and locking up, Nina dropped the top on her Mustang and cruised toward the city. She planned to stop into the shop real quick, pick up the cash, and make the deposit after the game so she wouldn't miss too much. If the streets were clear, she would arrive well into the first quarter, which was fine enough, because she loved to see Ty already in action.

“Hello, Nina's, Alex speaking. How may I help you?”

“Hey, pretty girl, I'm on my way in. Probably five minutes away. Is the weekly counted and ready?”

“Yes, it's here, ready to go. We counted $16,500, and we have the shirt-dresses you asked for on back order.”

“Ok Fab. Anything else we need stocked? I’ll go over inventory at some point next week, so make a list if we need anything.”

“Not as of yet,” Alex cheerfully replied. “I’ll look through some highlights and see what’s trending. If I see anything fancy enough, I’ll let you know.”

“Cool. I just pulled up out back; run out the weekly, please.”

After the quick exchange, Nina turned on her favorite song by Drake and headed for the gym. Hair blowing in the wind, swaying her hips to the beat, she couldn't help but feel like the baddest bitch in America. And that nigga Drake, being her favorite rapper, boosted her confidence ten times more.

As soon as her car touched the gym's parking lot, heads whirled in her direction. She saw a couple bitches who didn't like her, a couple niggas who tried to holla before, and she also saw a couple of her home girls whose girlfriends were on the team with Ty.

She parked two cars down from Ty's truck, put her top up, put on her lip gloss, and proceeded to the doors. Passing a group of females she really couldn't care less for, Nina made sure she popped her booty a little harder than normal when she walked through. Of course, she heard the bitches throwing shade under their breath, but who gave a fuck?

Definitely not Nina Samone.

As soon as she walked through the doors, Ty spotted her.

Acting like she didn't even know Ty existed, Nina found a spot next to her home girl, Candy, in the third row. She saw Ty checking her out, right along with every other stud in the gym, but her eyes were gazing everywhere except where Ty wanted them to be.

“Hey girl! How you been?” Nina asked as she pop-kissed Candy’s cheeks.

“Child, good. Can't complain,” Candy sassed. “How you doing? And uhh,” Candy tooted her nose up and made a circular motion with her finger towards Ty, “What's going on here?”

“What's going on where? What are you talking about?” Nina laughed.

“Mhm. Don't play me. Usually you would be on that damn court speaking to your nigga, not giving a damn if the ball was in play or not. So spill it.”

Still laughing, Nina replied, “Girl, you know how things go sometimes. One minute we alright, next minute we not.” She shrugged.

At halftime, Ty came into the bleachers and sat down next to Nina and Candy. Nina let her sit for a good sixty seconds before she even looked at her. She was still upset about seeing Ty with Lyrica, but she couldn’t resist how fine Ty was, and how good she made her feel sometimes.

“So, you can't speak?” Ty asked.

“What’s up, Ty?” Nina ran her fingers down Ty's sweaty face and smiled. “Nice to see you.”

“You still mad?” Ty flirted. “Where you going after the game? And what even made you come?”

“Well, damn! The third degree, huh?” Nina blushed. “No, I'm not mad. I have to make a bank run, and I'm here every Saturday. Why would today be different?”

Ty couldn't help but bite her bottom lip and give Nina the dreamy eyes. The girl had it going on! She was sexy, petite but curvy; her hair was always perfectly laid, and she had a personality that could trap anybody in a trans without even trying.

“I don’t know. But make sure you link up with me after the game,” Ty leaned in and kissed her lips. “I got something I wanna show you later.”

Nina was ready to throw her panties at Ty right there in the Gym. Her smooth swag melted her heart every time their lips touched. It was like Ty knew where her on-button was and pressed it whenever she felt like it. But when Nina saw a familiar face sitting in the bleachers where Ty’s team was, her mood changed in an instant.

“Which one of us gets you first?”

Lyrica was sitting there in the front row. She didn’t see her before because her back was turned. The only reason she saw her at the time was because Lyrica had stood up, searching the crowd for Ty, and as soon as she laid eyes on her talking to Nina, she came over wearing the biggest smile.

“Nina! Hey, girl! I didn't know you were coming. Ty, why didn't you tell me my girl was coming!”

“Yeah, Ty!” Nina smiled sarcastically. “Why didn't you tell US, WE were coming?”

Knowing she was caught, Ty made a quick exit for the court. “Talk later,” she said. “The second half about to start.”

During the second half of the game, Nina found out that Ty and Lyrica were in a relationship. They’d even talked about moving in together, and Lyrica had more than just an idea for the center. Ty's ass had brought her in as a full-blown partner!

She was so mad that she decided to dip out early, and of course, she texted Charlene, asking her if she wanted to meet up for drinks so she could tell her about Ty’s lying, cheating ass. But in the midst of her angry march down the bleachers, she knocked over someone's Gatorade. She quickly apologized and offered to buy the guy another bottle, but he politely declined.

“It’s cool, ma, I'm on my way out anyway.”

“You sure?” she asked, fumbling with the zipper on her purse. “I’m really sorry about that. I don’t mind replacing it.”

Nina's beauty quickly made him reconsider.

Holding out his hand to lead the way, with a sly smile, he said, “I mean, if you insist.”

Ty watched Nina and the mystery man in between passes and missed baskets, wondering what the hell was going on. She was hawking them so hard, she even saw which flavor of Gatorade Nina selected for him. After making her choice and handing it over, she decided to ask for his name, since Ty was watching her every move.

“Deon. What’s yours?”

“Nina.”

“Nina,” he admired. “Nice. How'd that come about? If you don't mind me asking.”

“My mom and her tool of choice.” Making the shape of a gun with her hand, she pressed her fingers to his chest and pulled the trigger.

“Ahh,” Deon chuckled. “I get you. They say all Spanish women are feisty.”

“Well, I can't speak for all of us. Only myself and the ones I know,” Nina smiled. “It was nice talking to you, though. And I'm sorry again about your drink.”

Turning to head out, Nina couldn't help but smile as she started to walk away.

Who the hell is that fine, smooth, swagged-out brother? she thought. I ain’t never seen a nigga as fine as that in this raggedy ass gym.

“I'm saying! I can't get the number?”

Deon called after her with his hands in the air.

She stopped with her hand on the door and waited for him to catch up to her.

Looking her up and down, he handed her his phone so she could store her number in. After doing so, she gave her phone a call so she would have his number too. Smiling seductively, she handed him his phone and told him to have a nice day.
